PASSAIC COUNTY HIRES PGA PROFESSIONAL MARTIN VYHIBAL TO OPERATE PREAKNESS VALLEY GOLF COURSE

(Wayne, NJ) – At last night’s meeting of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders action was taken to hire Martin Vyhibal as the golf professional in charge of operating the Preakness Valley Golf Course, Passaic County’s thirty six hole golf facility located in Wayne, New Jersey. Mr. Vyhibal is a Class “A” PGA member with twenty nine years of experience as a golf professional at public and private golf courses across the country. He has a distinguished playing career, including being voted one of the top ten New Jersey Junior Golfers of the Century in 2000. A graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, Mr. Vyhibal was a four year letterman and team captain on the golf team in 1981-82.

“After an extensive process where fifteen golf professionals were interviewed, Marty came out on top as the golf professional most likely to bring Preakness Valley Golf Course to the next level in service and operations in New Jersey,” stated Passaic County Freeholder Director Theodore “TJ” Best. “I know we are going to see changes on Day One with a professional and profitable operation that all Passaic County residents can be proud to call their home course. Marty’s depth of experience is going to transform the golf experience offered at Preakness Valley for the better in the months and years to come.”

Established in 1892 as one of the first public golf courses opened in the United States, Preakness Valley Golf Course has undergone a transformation in the last ten years following a multi-million dollar investment from the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders, including the installation of new tee boxes, a state of the art irrigation system, a new greens drainage system, and new cart paths. In 2015, over 48,000 golf rounds were accommodated annually and there were approximately 4,000 registered members.

“I am excited to be joining the County of Passaic and Preakness Valley Golf Course team to highlight this fantastic golf facility and bring new members and golfers to Wayne to see the great improvements that have been made over the last ten years,” stated Martin Vyhibal. “I am going to be reaching out to golfers of all ages about new programming, clinics, and tournaments to that will be offered at Preakness Valley in the coming year. I look forward to meeting all of our members, staff, and partners as we embark upon an exciting golf season at Preakness Valley.”
