Historian

The County Historian researches, writes and publishes articles on county history, and to the extent possible, preserves and makes available materials relating to county history. In addition, the County Historian acts as a reference source for persons who request historical data and information.

One of the County Historian's major responsibilities is to advise the Freeholders on the acquisition, administration, use and disposition of any landmark or historic site within Passaic County.

The County Historian works closely with the Planning, Parks and Engineering Departments in developing grant applications for restoring historic properties within the county park system, such as the Lambert Observatory Tower in Garret Mountain Reservation and the colonial revivial gardens at Dey Mansion, General George Washington's military field headquarters during July, October and November, 1780, in Preakness Valley Park and Golf Course.
