SCHULYER-COLFAX HOUSE- Wayne, NJ
The
Schuyler-Colfax House, is Wayne’s oldest home and was built
in 1695-96 by settler Arent Schuyler. It is one of a few
colonial homesteads, located on America's east coast, that
was built circa 1700 and continually remained in the
original family's ownership for eight generations.
Each
generation of the family produced military, medical, legal
and governmental representatives, leaving behind records and
artifacts.
Wayne Township has purchased the
Schuyler-Colfax House, and the home is currently undergoing
restoration. The Schuyler-Colfax House will be opened to the
public as a museum when the restoration is complete.
