Observatory Information
The Astronomical Observatory is open for public viewing on selected
dates during the year. There is no charge to attend these Public
Nights, and members of the Nature Center Volunteer Council and
Public Night Volunteers man the telescopes.
Different planets and deep-sky objects, as well as the moon in
different phases, are visible as the sky changes with the seasons so
it is worthwhile to come to see the changing views at different
times throughout the year. Other objects may be seen that are not
listed for a particular night, and exceptionally clear nights may
allow for fainter deep-sky objects to be seen. Please note that
there will be no viewing in the event of overcast skies or inclement
weather. Public Night programs generally run until 10:00 PM (except
in July and August when viewing is extended until 11:00 PM), and
visitors are welcome to come and go during the program.
If you like to become a Public Night Volunteer or are interested in
The Astronomy Club which meets monthly at the Observatory then
please call (973) 523-0024 for further information.
