Freeholder Sonia Rosado

Sonia
Rosado is proud to have made history in November of 2000 when
she became the first Hispanic to be elected to the Passaic
County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and again in January of 2002
when she was selected to serve as Freeholder Director.
Freeholder Rosado was re-elected in 2003 and currently serves as
Freeholder Deputy Director.
The Passaic County raised Freeholder graduated from Passaic High
School and went on to receive her Bachelor's degree from Rutgers
University, Newark; and a Fellowship to the Master of Arts
program in Urban Administration at Bucknell University in
Pennsylvania. Freeholder Rosado holds NJ State Certifications as
a Social Worker and as a Vocational/Employment Specialist.
Sonia and her husband, Angel, have been married for thirty-one
years and they now reside in the Borough of Ringwood. Angel is
proud to serve his country as a Sergeant First Class in the Army
National Guard.
Freeholder Sonia Rosado has continued the example of community
involvement and service as taught to her by her mother. Sonia's
mother, Adela Coca, was a leader and activist in Paterson not
only for the Hispanic community but also for battered women
throughout Passaic County. Mrs. Coca was the Director of the
Passaic County Women's Center, which is a resource center for
victims of domestic violence, where she trained police officers
on how to recognize and deal with situations involving domestic
violence. She also served as an expert witness on domestic
violence in the courts.
Freeholder Rosado, as a former resident of the City of Paterson
continues to be involved in all aspects of the community as both
an appointed and elected official. Sonia served the residents of
Paterson well as their 3rd Ward Councilwoman and later as
Council President. Sonia's commitment to public service includes
her involvement with many community organizations such as
membership on the Board of Directors of United Way of Passaic
County and William Paterson University's Board of Trustees. She
also served as a member of the Paterson Board of Education and
as a Commissioner on the Planning Board for the City of
Paterson.
Since 1986 Sonia has been the Career Center Coordinator for the
Passaic County Workforce Development Center. Formerly, she
served as the Director of Aspira, Inc. in Passaic County, which
is national, community based organization, that teaches
leadership through education. Sonia also worked in Washington,
D.C. for the Department of Labor as the Special Assistant to the
Director of the Office of Contracts Compliance.
Freeholder Sonia Rosado has put her considerable talents,
experience, education and tenacity to good use to enable her to
better serve the residents of Passaic County. Sonia now serves
as Chairwoman of the Planning and Economic Development
Committee.
