The Department of Senior Services provides and coordinates numerous services and sponsors many activities for senior citizens. Services available within the county include transportation, seasonal cleaning, housekeeping, certified home health aides, telephone reassurance, social adult day care and legal services.
Activities include educational conferences, evening socials, health fairs and trips to various locations. Advocacy efforts on behalf of the senior citizens range from policy development to petitioning elected officials.
The Department is also designed as an ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Connection) coordinating and providing information and assistance, outreach, in-home risk assessments, benefit screenings and care management services. A coordinated effort with the Passaic County Board of Social Services assists those individuals at risk of placement in a nursing facility with additional senior health programs.
The Department of Senior Services further administers the provision of congregate meals, nutrition education and counseling, and home-delivered meals.
