The Department of Human Services is an umbrella social service agency concerned with the planning and funding services for the County’s disadvantaged and homeless citizens. Programs include mental health, addiction treatment, 211 (24/7 information & referral social services hotline), JDAI (juvenile detention alternative initiatives), homeless prevention and housing, mortgage & foreclosure counseling, rental & utility assistance and at-risk youth programs. Programs operate out of five divisions: Mental Health & Addiction Services, Family Services, Juvenile Administration, Community Outreach Services and Youth Services. Through a partnership with the United Way of Passaic County, the Department of Human Services coordinates and provides 24 hour assistance to residents in need of social service information and referral services via 211. 211 is free to County residents and is accessed by simply dialing 211 or by clicking www.nj211.org.
