Agritourism Survey Results
In an effort to protect streams and water resources as directed in the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, the Highlands Regional Master Plan has made an impact on portions of the farming community. Attempting to address the needs and frustrations of farmers affected by the Highlands Act, the council has allocated funding to research and develop a three phase program to promote agritourism in the Highlands Region. This study represents the initial phase.

This study consisted of interviews with farmers and members of the agricultural community, focus groups with farm organizations, and a consumer survey. The goal of the primary research was to ascertain the needs of farmers and consumers, as well as understand consumer behavior in order to recommend a marketing strategy that would promote agritourism in the Highlands Region.
