Wedding Ceremonies

The Clerk of Passaic County performs marriage ceremonies at the County's Administration Building located at 401 Grand Street, Paterson, New Jersey 07505.

Dates must be reserved in advance and prospective couples must apply for and receive a valid New Jersey Marriage License from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the municipality where
the spouse-to-be resides.  If only one party is a New Jersey resident, then couples should apply in the municipality where they reside. A marriage license will not be issued sooner than three (3) days after the application has been made.  Once the marriage license is issued, it is valid for 30 days from the issued date. A marriage license permits a wedding to be lawfully performed.

Ceremonies are usually performed on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Freeholders Meeting Room. Either party must apply at the Clerk's Office in person on a Wednesday in order to reserve a marriage date.  There is a $25.00 fee for the Ceremony which is payable in cash or money order.

After it is signed by the Clerk of Passaic County following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds will receive the pink copy of the marriage license, along with written information on how and where to obtain a certified copy of the marriage certificate.  The Registrar of Vital Statistics of the City of Paterson will typically issue the  certified marriage certificate two (2) weeks from the date of the ceremony.
