Senior Diesel Mechanic | Roads

Under direction, performs skilled mechanical work involving the maintenance, repair and servicing of various types of motor vehicles and or/or construction equipment. does other related work as required.

Takes the lead and works with employees doing mechanical work on automobiles and trucks with other motorized and mechanical equipment powered by diesel engines including road construction and maintenance equipment.

Takes the lead in performing the installation, maintenance, and repair of snowplow trucks, salt spreaders, paratransit buses, construction equipment and similar machinery. May also perform welding duties.

May train or assist junior mechanics and equipment operators in proper maintenance procedures.

Maintain essential records. Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recoding information systems by the department.

 

Requirements:

Education: One (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school. 

Experience: Two (2) years of varied experience in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment. 

Note: Possession of a certificate as a diesel mechanic by ASE may substitute for one (1) year of formal training.

License: Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required or must be obtained within 90 days of the date of hire.
