Passaic County is seeking a qualified professional to fill the position of Principal Engineer, Bridges within the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for supervising and performing professional engineering work related to the planning, design, inspection, and construction of bridge projects. Work includes oversight of consultants, coordination of construction activities, and administration of state and federally funded projects.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bridge analysis, design, and rehabilitation, including preparation of design calculations and construction contract documents
- Knowledge of NJDOT design standards, specifications, standard construction details, and Local Aid/grant processes
- Familiarity with construction administration and project management practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Bridge inspection experience
- Roadway design and/or roadway/bridge construction management experience
- Experience managing federally and/or state-funded projects
Examples of Work
- Reviews and approves engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents for bridge projects
- Serves as project manager for the design and construction of capital improvement projects
- Coordinates and oversees the work of consultants, contractors, and County inspection staff
- Administers grants, including application, compliance, and reporting requirements
- Performs engineering calculations and prepares technical reports and correspondence
- Conducts site visits during design and construction phases to monitor progress and resolve issues
- Coordinates with utility companies and other public/private stakeholders
- Ensures projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, schedules, and budgets
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in engineering design practices and relevant software tools
Requirements:
Education: Graduation from accredited college/university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Experience: 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in bridge analysis, design, and/or construction
Note: A New Jersey Professional Engineer License is a plus
License: Driver's license valid in NJ
