PATERSON, NJ – The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners approved more than $2 million in grant funding to expand critical human services programs across the county: including shelter services for homeless residents, mental health and addiction coordination, and social services planning.
The Board authorized the Department of Human Services to accept a $1,864,914 grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services for the Shelter Services for the Homeless program, which provides Emergency housing assistance and support services for homeless individuals and families in Passaic County.
Additionally, the Board approved two grants from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families: a $52,397 award to support coordination of the Passaic County Children’s Interagency Coordinating Council (CIACC) through the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services and $172,064 for Human Services planning and information services through the Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC).
“These grants reflect our commitment to meeting residents where they are and ensuring that the most vulnerable members of our community have access to shelter, mental health support and the services they need to stabilize their lives,” said Commissioner Christina Schratz. “We are grateful to our state and federal partners for their continued investment in Passaic County.”
The shelter services grant, administered under the Shelter Services for the Homeless (SSH) and SSH TANF programs, will enable the county to maintain and expand emergency housing resources for some of the region’s most vulnerable residents. The CIACC funding supports a county-wide interagency network focused on early intervention, prevention and coordination of mental health and addiction services. The HSAC grant supports planning, data collection, and community needs assessment to ensure human services resources are aligned with resident needs.
All three grants were approved at the Board’s regular meeting on June 9, 2026.
