POMPTON LAKES, NJ — The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners today dedicated the newly completed Hershfield Park Pedestrian Bridge in the Borough of Pompton Lakes, marking the completion of a $1.3 million reconstruction project that replaces a deteriorated structure with a modern, safe crossing built to serve the community for generations.
The new bridge, a 107-foot prefabricated steel structure set on new concrete abutments, spans the Wanaque River and reconnects Hershfield Park and John E. Murrin Park, two valued green spaces that draw residents from across the borough. The previous structure, which had stood for more than 60 years, had deteriorated beyond repair and was taken out of service prior to construction.
Passaic County awarded the construction contract in April 2024. Work was completed during the 2025–2026 winter season, on schedule and under budget.
“This bridge connects more than two parks, it connects neighborhoods and people,” said Commissioner Michael Ramaglia. “For more than 60 years, the previous structure served this community and when it reached the end of its useful life, the County acted. What stands here today is a modern, efficient structure built to last and we are honored to return it to the residents of Pompton Lakes.”
