RINGWOOD, NJ – Passaic County is getting $1,478,596 from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to support Tranquility Ridge.

The funding comes through NJDEP’s Natural Climate Solutions Grant program and will be used for a large-scale reforestation effort at Tranquility Ridge, a natural area spanning West Milford and Ringwood in the heart of the New Jersey Highlands. The project will restore tree cover, improve water quality and help protect the land from the impacts of climate change.

“Tranquility Ridge is a special place for the people who hike it, the wildlife that calls it home and the watershed it helps protect,” said Commissioner Director Sandi Lazzara. “This investment lets us do real, lasting restoration work there and it’s exactly the kind of project that makes Passaic County a leader on open space and the environment.”

This project is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when municipalities and the county work together, and we look forward to seeing Tranquility Ridge thrive.” said Mayor Jaime Matteo-Landis, Mayor of the Borough of Ringwood.

The project will be managed by the Passaic County Department of Parks and Recreation. Work is expected to begin soon.
