What Does County Counsel Do?
County Counsel serves as the chief legal advisor for Passaic County government, helping ensure that all County actions are legally sound and in the public’s best interest.
This office provides legal guidance and support to the Board of County Commissioners, County departments, and constitutional officers - including the Sheriff, County Clerk, and Surrogate. From reviewing contracts and resolutions to representing the County in legal matters, County Counsel plays a critical role in protecting the County’s interests and keeping operations running smoothly.
County Counsel also oversees all litigation involving the County and ensures that decisions made by County government comply with state and federal law.
In short, County Counsel is the legal backbone of County government, helping deliver public services with integrity, accountability, and transparency.
