Nadege D. Allwaters, Esq. currently serves as County Counsel and chief legal advisor to the County of Passaic. Ms. Allwaters graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and received her law degree from Vermont Law School. Immediately following her J.D. matriculation, Ms. Allwaters began her legal vocation as a Law clerk for the Hon. Susan F. Maven, J.S.C. in the Atlantic County Superior Courthouse, Family Division.
Ms. Allwaters began her assiduous career within Passaic County as legal counsel to the Passaic County Board of Social Services in 2016. In 2018, she accepted an offer to become Assistant County Counsel for the County of Passaic, advancing to Deputy County Counsel in 2019. In 2023, Ms. Allwaters became County Counsel and was reappointed to a full three-year term on February 11, 2025. In her role as County Counsel, Ms. Allwaters is responsible for providing legal representation and assistance to all County Departments, the Board of County Commissioners, the Passaic County Construction Board of Appeals, as well as all constitutional officers, including the Sheriff, Surrogate and County Clerk.
Ms. Allwaters and her dedicated team of Assistant County Counsels also author all contracts and resolutions adopted by the County and oversee all litigation in which the County is a party. A devoted civic leader, she is an active County Committee member and involved member of her local church in Paterson, reflecting her broader commitment to the residents of Passaic County. She is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Ms. Allwaters also lends her expertise to the Opioid Recovery & Remediation Fund County Advisory Council. Her contributions to law and public service were recognized in InsiderNJ’s “100 Powerful Attorneys of 2024,” where she was ranked #32. In her leisure time, she enjoys frequenting the County’s lush parks and the historic John W. Rea House located in Hawthorne, the Borough she and her family have called home for nearly 15 years.
