Department of Health Services
To report a public health emergency or a notifiable disease during off-hours, the Health Officer or their staff are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Health Department may be contacted by calling:
- The non-emergency Passaic County Sheriff’s Department at 973-881-2470 or
- The on-call Health Department representative at 973-725-2491.
If the emergency is life-threatening or requires immediate police, fire, or ambulatory response, call 9-1-1.
The Passaic County Department of Health Services (PCDHS) is responsible for protecting and promoting the health of the total population of 525,000 people from 16 municipalities.
The PCDHS is not a traditional public health service provider; however, it has a well-organized infrastructure, and is a state certified County Environmental Health Act Agency (CEHA).
The PCDHS organizes regular blood drives and public health outreach events to raise awareness in the community of on-going and developing threats to public health.
