Darryl Sparta is the Director of the Passaic County Parks and Recreation Department, bringing nearly 30 years of experience in parks management, turfgrass science, and public service.

He began his career as Assistant Superintendent at Ridgewood Country Club before joining Passaic County in 2001 as Assistant Superintendent of Preakness Valley Golf Course. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Superintendent, then Manager of Parks and Grounds, and in 2017, Director. 

Over the past two decades, Darryl has played a key role in maintaining and improving the county’s park system, overseeing maintenance, capital projects, recreational programming, and visitor services. Under his leadership, the department has expanded significantly to better serve the community. 

Darryl holds a bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Science from Penn State University. He and his wife Andrea are raising three children, ages 13, 11, and 9.
